Padang: Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian said four regencies in West Sumatra still require special attention following floods and landslides that struck the province in late November 2025.

The affected areas are Agam, Padang Pariaman, Tanah Datar, and South Pesisir. Speaking on Tuesday, Karnavian said the four regencies need focused intervention as conditions there remain severe, unlike other cities and districts that have gradually begun returning to normal.

However, he stressed that this does not mean other regions have fully recovered. Solok District, for example, continues to face access constraints that still require government support.

“The situation in those four regencies is quite complex. There are challenges related to education facilities, road access, markets, and water networks that require technical handling by the relevant ministries,” Karnavian said, as quoted by Antara on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.

He added that the central government will continue coordinating closely with agencies such as the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to accelerate recovery efforts.

Meanwhile, West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi affirmed the provincial government’s commitment to ensuring development projects proceed optimally so communities can resume productive activities.

According to regional data, the disasters affected 307,936 residents across West Sumatra. Of that number, 264 people were killed, 72 remain missing, 401 were injured, and 10,854 were displaced.

West Sumatra was one of three provinces -,alongside Aceh and North Sumatra,-hit by devastating floods and landslides in late 2025.

Based on National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) records as of January 13, the disasters have claimed 1,189 lives and left 141 people missing across the three provinces, with approximately 195,500 people displaced.
